2008 National Year of Reading

Overview

The National Year of Reading (NYR) is a year-long celebration of reading, in all its forms. It aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England – for children, families and adult learners alike. The year aims to encourage people to read in businesses, homes, and communities around the country, providing new opportunities to read and helping people to access help and support through schools and libraries. For further information about how to get involved, see the National Year of Reading website.

Regional Reader Development Co-ordinator

Anne Sherman has been appointed Regional Reader Development Officer, based at MLA West Midlands in central Birmingham. The post is supported by the Society of Chief Librarians (WM) and aims to work across 14 library authorities to develop, deliver and monitor a regional reader development strategy as well as raising the profile of activities during National Year of Reading 2008.
